1. Start with Fresh, Viable Seeds
Clove seeds lose their viability quickly after harvest. For the best germination rates, use fresh seeds collected from ripe fruits. Seeds that have been stored for too long often fail to sprout.
Plant them immediately in moist, well-drained soil and keep them in a warm, humid environment.
2. Choose the Perfect Location
Clove trees prefer tropical climates with temperatures between 20°C and 35°C (68°F–95°F). They grow best in areas with high humidity and consistent rainfall.
Young plants should be protected from direct, intense sunlight. Partial shade during the first few years helps prevent leaf scorching and reduces stress.
3. Improve Soil with Organic Matter
Clove plants thrive in rich, fertile soil with good drainage. Mixing compost, aged manure, or leaf mold into the soil improves nutrient availability and moisture retention.
The ideal soil pH ranges from 5.5 to 6.5, slightly acidic conditions that support healthy root development.
4. Mulch for Stronger Growth
Applying a thick layer of organic mulch around the base of the tree helps conserve moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weeds.
