Samantha was released on bail within two days. The first thing she did was file a civil claim against me for defamation and emotional distress.

Mark posted on social media about “false accusations” and “jealousy.” Friends I’d known for years stopped replying. Some unfriended me outright.

Then the forensic report came back.

The screenshots Mark submitted had metadata inconsistencies. They’d been generated using a spoofing app. Time stamps didn’t match carrier logs. The IP address traced back to Mark’s home computer.

The detective called me in.

“Your brother fabricated evidence,” Officer Reynolds said. “That’s obstruction.”

I felt sick. Not surprised—just hollow.

Mark was questioned. He denied everything until confronted with the report. Then he broke.
