The Secret Hidden at the Altar: What Dark Revenge Was His Own Mother Hiding?

The Document That Changed Everything

The man in the suit, unfazed by Doña Carmen’s outburst of fury, waited for Elena to open the envelope. His gaze was unsettlingly calm.

Elena, her fingers trembling, broke the wax seal. The envelope contained several sheets of paper. The first was a will, printed on high-quality paper, with legal seals and notarized signatures.

“My name is Ricardo Durán,” the man announced, now addressing the congregation, his voice professional and authoritative. “I am a lawyer and representative of the firm Durán & Associates. I am here in fulfillment of the last wishes of Don Alejandro Vargas.”

A murmur of surprise rippled through the church. Alejandro Vargas? That name meant nothing to Elena. For Doña Carmen, however, the color had completely drained from her face. She was as white as wax.

“Don Alejandro Vargas,” Ricardo continued, “passed away a month ago in Switzerland. And, contrary to what Miss Elena has been led to believe, he was her biological father.”

The revelation hit like a bombshell. Elena felt the ground shift beneath her feet. Her father? But her mother had always told her that her father had died when she was very young, and that she had barely known him. That he was an unimportant man.

He looked at Miguel, the “vagrant,” who remained motionless at the altar. His expression had subtly changed; it was no longer empty, but tense, observant.

“Lies!” cried Doña Carmen, taking a step forward. “It’s slander! My late husband was Elena’s father! This man is crazy!”

“With all due respect, ma’am,” Ricardo replied, his voice firm, “I have DNA evidence certified by the Swiss courts that proves Don Alejandro Vargas’s paternity. Furthermore, this will is irrefutable.”

Elena, her heart pounding in her chest, began to read the first lines of the document. Her eyes widened.

The will named Elena Vargas as the sole and universal heir to a considerable fortune, which included properties, stocks, and bank accounts in several countries. It was an astronomical, unimaginable sum.

But what followed left her breathless.

“The will of Don Alejandro Vargas,” Ricardo continued, as Elena read avidly, “establishes a very specific condition. If Miss Elena Vargas marries a person chosen or influenced by Doña Carmen de la Fuente, or if it is discovered that Doña Carmen has attempted to manipulate her life or inheritance in any way, Miss Elena will lose 90% of her inheritance, which will be transferred to a charitable foundation.”

A deathly silence fell over the church. The guests stared at Doña Carmen with a mixture of horror and astonishment. The petrified smile on the woman’s face crumbled completely, revealing a volcanic fury.

“This is a trap! A farce!” Carmen shrieked, her eyes wide. “That man never cared about her! He left her to me, a burden!”
